I never knew about these things until I got my Austin Healey. They would have been very useful for every OTHER vehicle I've owned before that. I don't know why there aren't cheaper knockoffs being made, or simply clear glass spark plugs. The idea is so simple, yet so genius.

I just bought one because I don't have a gas analyser, I hope I can tune my engine for FE instead of power.

@charade993 is right. The mixture should be set for under load conditions. But tickrover is a starting piont for futher adjustment. after a plug chop. I am glad of my Colourtune kit.

@melton1313 not really. theyre ok for setting the mixture at idle. but its under load or light load driving conditions where it really matters.

I think they are around thick end of £30.

I think you should see blue flame, if u see orange the mixture is too rich, if its light blue/white then its lean which is worse then running rich. if you got a motorbike one of these can be handy

allo i used these in the 70s ,you got the plug,the extention ht lead ,and a black plastic scope with a mirror on the top that hindged so you could see down a deep plug hole ,

still use one to this day to check the mix.
