I WANT kangaroos on my bike track where i commute near Paris, France !
-
@myforwik By the way.... all I wanted the police to do was have a chat and warn him, nothing more. I made this point explicitly in my statement. I'm not after 'revenge', I just want the driver to realise that it was inappropriate and dangerous (horns are very, very loud when you're not sitting in a soundproofed air-conditioned box....)
:)
-
@CyclingMikey Indeed. I'd say about 1% of drivers are dangerous fools (and another percentage of ignorant fools!) but when you're cycling in a high traffic environment you're just going to come across them more frequently.
It should be said that the same percentage of cyclists are aggressive arses too...!
-
@myforwik I could have also been riding smack bang in the middle of the road at all times as this too would be legal but that would make it even more difficult for drivers to pass me and would only create bad blood.
As I'm going so slowly relative to the motorised traffic, them passing me over unbroken lines is a very short & safe manoeuvre. It's not like they're overtaking a long truck!
-
@CyclingMikey Thanks Mikey! :)
-
@myforwik Sure they did, but given the nature of the roads they would be waiting a long, long time to pass me if they *insisted* on not touching an unbroken line.
My answer is simple. I would much prefer someone to make a minor infringement and drive SAFELY rather than insisting on not breaking ANY rules and drive like an aggressive arse.
As it was he did break the law by using his horn in that manner so if that was the drivers argument, he's a hypocrite... and an aggressive one at that.
-
The guy you reported to the police did a legal overtake, unlike the two before him. Actually, most of the people who overtake you do an illegal overtake across a solid line. I would very surprised if the police did anything to the last guy other than to warn him over improper use of a horn. The other drivers will likely get fined for crossing double lines.
-
Oh, and your ratio of good drivers to bad is much the same as I see here in London. There are hardly any dodgy drivers around, and most people are really lovely towards us.
-
Lovely, Paul! I was chuffed when I saw the email saying you'd uploaded a video!!!
-
@harwig Haha :) I was quite shagged by the time I got home... no real pain though, just muscle aches. The velomobile is so very comfortable!
-
at 19.53 I recognize the expression in your face ! I have it too , when I've done about 200 kilometers in my Quest .... ;-)
-
awesome! so cool seeing these videos
-
@joyscreamofseagulls Thanks for the comments! I'd LOVE to test ride a Quest! :-D
-
I really enjoyed that. I know how you feel. I'm a 'Quest' rider from the UK and can empathise. Why do you think it is that so few people want to experience this fantastic form of transport? I look forward to more posts. Thank you.
-
@ask412 Me too! I was thrilled to see them on the bike path. :)
-
Thanks Paul, that was very enjoyable.
The roos made it for me, "sweet spot" of the ride : )
-
@KrunchyJD You should ask for a police reference number and call them after a few days to follow it up.
-
@jalit If they do that in Newcastle the police dont do anything about it.
-
@deezynar You're welcome.
The more of you vids I watch the more I want one! It makes my recumbent seem positively snail like. I know it's a big ask, but could you pop over and let me have a go? I'm in England, lol.

@PedalPowerPanther Haha... :) Why not just pop over to Groningen in The Netherlands and see the guys that make them for a test ride?

Good video. I am just a bit confused after your last video with the stop sign then in this one you run a stop sign and say its ok.
lewy950 3 months ago
@lewy950 The law should be changed for bicycles such that stop signs should be treated as give way signs, like is some civilised countries. Yes, what I did was illegal by not stopping but I was endangering nobody and I only had one direction to look for conflicting traffic... and it was clear.
There is a big difference between a 30kg bicycle and a 1500kg metal car running a stop sign... but as far as the law goes, there isn't. It is also illegal for cyclists to ride across zebra crossings here
