Dallas-based Southwest Airlines grounds 41 planes in its fleet, causing some flights to be canceled. The move comes after a $10.2 million penalty brought because the airline continued to fly planes that missed safety inspections. (March 12)

  • I used to work for America West Airlines which has merged with US Air. They outsource maintenance to Costa Rica. It has been found that Southwest also outsources. Safety isn't as important as quality when they are trying to make a dollar.

  • Uninspected doesn't necessarily mean unsafe.

  • Well this makes me scared because I'm flying southwest in 5 days!

  • Yeah, but guess who ends up paying in the end? The SAME people who ALWAYS end up paying for EVERYTHING in the end. The middle class.

  • They are required by law to conduct and pass these inspections, I don't think they should be allowed to appeal. Sure they are having financial trouble, but that's no excuse for being negligent.
