Portishead return to Toronto for the first time in 14 years to perform for their adoring and loving fans. They were here for the thanksgiving weekend and I was fortunate enough to attend on Monday.
The show started at 8pm; the doors opened at 7pm, and I arrived around 6.10pm, which is quite late typically. I was very thrilled, then, when I was near the very front of the line with maybe only 20'ish people in front of me!
I was right up against the stage! Although not dead centre (which is the only downside) but was still really close and maybe just a bit to the left. .
Portishead started at about 9.15pm if I recall correctly. When the lights went black and the band started making their way on stage I think I distinctly recall a very strong pot smell in the air, which is kind of funny I suppose. I never took Beth, Adrian, and Geoff for pot smokers haha.
It was absolutely magical to see them live in person, having idolized them so very much after watching their performances on Youtube. And the cherry on the icing on the cake? I got to give Beth a hug! Which is what I had always wanted to do whenever I see her giving such heart breakingly tearfully emotional performances on Youtube.
I am so glad I went
