The Smiling Sessions has been nominated for The Big Lottery Awards 2011. To vote go to www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards or call 0844 836 9677.
The Smiling Sessions was set up to rejuvenate the elderly through musical participation and interaction. The Smiling Sessions musicians go into sheltered and managed homes for the elderly in Waltham Forest armed only with songs. The emphasis is on humour and having a good time.
Music gets to the parts other activities can't reach and it has proven benefits for health and well-being. It helps concentration, co-ordination aids relaxation, and brings a sense of togetherness when people play or sing in groups. Alzheimer's sufferers can also improve memory by listening to their favourite music.

What a great idea! It can only have positive benefits for the residents - wishing you lots of luck with the funding, to keep those faces smiling.
