but look at sbo/evo finals and top 8/16, there's a lot more homogeneity than you're trying to spout here

all of the characters *can* be used at high level play, but only a few ever really are going to be and be successful.

take gief, i love him. go up against a sagat who's on the same or greater level than you, and gg it's over.

Ryu, Balrog, M. Bison, Sagat, Blanka, Rufus, Dhalsim, Chun Li, Seth, Akuma, Zangief, Viper, E. Honda, Rose, Abel, Guile, Fei Long, and even El Fuerte are all used in tournaments and other "high level play". Even DAN is decent in SF4. SF4 is VERY well balanced, with MANY tournament worthy characters. "Only about 3-4 characters" is flat out wrong.

You played on Mugen? Ya, I know it's hard. But you can go through it but having a little bit of practice on combos.
