Tribute band Buddy Holly Lives! in 2005 doing this Bill Doggett / Fats Domino Medley from a Buddy Holly practice tape recorded at Venture Studio in Lubbock in late 1956 with Buddy, Jerry and possibly Larry Welborn. Smiley Lewis first recorded Blue Monday in 1953, but Fats Domino was the first to garner any critical success with it (in Jan 1957).

  • @violinroy True - I have another band and it takes too long to grow them back - I figured it wasn't huge

  • "Wednesday ..I'm beat to my socks" Everyone messes that lyric up. Cool job guys. Love it!

  • @rockabillyotis You guys got any gigs coming up? If so? Put more up! Nice to see and hear a band bringing it back and making it come to life.

  • You guys cook. Awesome performance guys.

  • An astute comment I can respect. In fact the reason we play it is because I heard a copy of Buddy Holly doing this on MCA 8000 a compilation from the UK that has a lot of Holly covers from 1956. I was so inspired by Holly's version we did it in his style - I have since had the good fortune to hear the original by Bill Doggett - a keyboard oriented masterpiece that Billy Butler does and excellent job in E I believe -we do it in Holly's key of D - He never released his version.

  • No one can do this (Honky Tonk) as good as the originals, but the "originals" wouldn't be Buddy Holly and the Crickets, but Bill Doggett's combo with Billy Butler (the guitarist who wrote "Honky Tonk").

  • They are actually quite difficult to transport around compared to an electric bass. LOL

  • This is lovely.I love their drumming .The bass is good.Finger movements are good enough to attract the audiences .I am admiring the bass viola .Wish once again it comes into vogue, but they are too posy.
