Percussion Ensemble - "Snowfall" by Eric C. W. Peel

After all this unusual snow we've had in the Northwest so far, I eventually decided to "say" what it all sounded like. This piece ends the same way it starts, just as a snowstorm does. It starts out with a single note (flake), builds up to a blizzard, and then eventually tapers off to one single flake. You'll notice the "falling" sounds that fade from the glockenspiels to the marimbas. The unfamiliar sounds in the beginning and end are the bowed vibes. Whenever snow starts falling, I always hear that sweet major third. It's also exciting when the snow stops because then the roads clear and life can continue.

Instrumentation: 2 glockenspiels, 2 xylophones, 2 marimbas, vibraphone, crotales, chimes, triangle and suspended cymbal.

I used Sibelius 5 and Virtual Drumline 2.5.

Awesome! This involuntary visionary is exactly what I intended :) Personally, I picture mountains more than a field though. But fields can be pretty dramatic once they're snow-covered.
