Protestors showed their disdain for two teachers who harassed a former student in the Anoka-Hennepin School District before the School Board meeting last night. A number of people spoke to the board commenting on the disciplinary action the district took against teachers Diane Cleveland and Walter Filson who verbally harassed a male high school student over his perceived sexual orientation during the 2007-2008 school year. The district reached a $25,000 settlement with the student and his family this summer. The teachers were not fired for their actions against the student because of continuing contract union laws that allow remediation such as sensitivity training. The School Board has already asked district staff to review its current harassment policies. For the full article go to mnsun.com.
