You can use your VCR as a high-fidelity audio recorder.

it looks and sounds like a PAL video playing on a incompatible NTSC video player. I have a NTSC video and played it on a incompatible PAL video player and the picture is weird and the sound is slow.

It sounds like the tape reels are somehow "sticking" and then unsticking, causing the speed variations, which might also be what's causing the picture to disappear
