Lugang Townships fine hand-crafted furniture master Xu Qiulin is making a standard Xuan De incense burner table in front of his sanheyuan (3-section) home.
The project needs to be made completely by hand by first drawing out the pattern and then carving out each design. The furniture is then assembled together.
This kind of fine, detailed hand-crafted furniture is called Ximuzuo. It includes a carving board and an exquisite furniture cabinet. It is different from the coarse carpentry work for construction jobs. Instead of nails, tenon joints are used. Detailed carved design made by hand is the rule. The material used is mostly Chinese cypress and Chinese incense cedar wood.
