@DanFrederiksen No...my point with the comments below is that GM is just like all the other car companies in that its a business...its no better...and in many areas it has been a worse company with worse products. Change does not happen overnight.but there are many changes happening and 'many' are for the better. Yes, I said the Leaf is heavy too. Then again I don't even know why I am talking to a guy with UFO/9-11/conspiracy theory videos in his favorites.By the way, I hate pseudoscience too.
@DanFrederiksen I don't have blind faith in authority..I am quite the polemicist actually. Yes, there are areas where the Volt could have weighed less..its not perfect but then again with the weight of most cars going up year by year, other OEMs should be cutting weight and most don't seem to be. That's because its expensive and they are a business. Apple could give everyone twice the memory too...but they are a business who needs profit. Unless you want the Volt to cost even more..?
@2003SCT my facts are just fine. if GM had cared about weight even a little there wouldn't be a lead acid starter battery in it. just as an example.
and you can easily make a 4 seater as aerodynamic as the EV1. even better.
try to actually think and connect the dots instead of mindlessly arguing from a standpoint of blind faith in perceived authority. GM does it ergo it must be good. it's so unintelligent.
Bot Lutz is so stupid he thinks global warming is made up. they are idiots.
@DanFrederiksen I don't have blind faith in GM....but you seem to not have all your facts straight. Some research could do wonders for you. The Nissan Leaf is quite heavy considering it has no engine. But Nissan and GM both cut weight where they could. These complex systems could be made even lighter however there are inherently higher costs for these. It sounds like you probably don't like GM which is fine...but don't let your hatred get in the way of reality.
@DanFrederiksen The EV1 was only a two seater and only conformed to old crash standards and had no engine aka lighter and slipperier aka not comparable. I understand that frontal isn't the only factor in total drag. Even the stereo system that GM/Bose created for the Volt uses a Class D amp and neodymium magnets(as opposed to ferric units) all to save weight...though it adds cost. That is literally just one example which proves your "no weight saving materials" argument WRONG. :)
@2003SCT look up the drag coefficient of the GM EV1. and the cross section area which also matters to aerodynamics. there is nothing wrong with my facts. you just have a childish blind faith in GM and it is quite misplaced.
the weight of the Volt is not due to batteries being inherently heavy either. the car is just designed without any form of weight optimization. it's a completely conventional indifferent engineering approach, there are no weight saving materials. it's sloppy thus high price
@DanFrederiksen The Volt has a coefficient of drag of .28 which is literally one of the slipperiest contours ever in the automotive world...so you may want to check your facts. The Volt has additional weight because of the battery pack...which has nothing to do with rapid prototyping.

@2003SCT again you argue from the standpoint that GM can do no wrong.
always making excuses.
the Leaf has a lead acid starter battery too btw.
I will not answer you again unless you start thinking
