Our 34th Annual Wacipi (powwow) was a success! People from across the country gathered on our campus to help hundreds of Lakota (Sioux) children celebrate their culture and heritage.

While we truly enjoyed this entire weekend of events, we also sadly recognize not every child who wanted to participate was able to do so because we lacked personal regalia for them.

As we look to future celebrations, we thank you for sharing in our work and helping Lakota children in need reach for a brighter future!

  • Awesome. I hope that I can see it in person one day.

  • @steve0448 We hope you are able to visit us someday too! Let us know if you’re ever in the area; we’d love to give you a tour! God bless you!!

  • We're so glad you enjoyed this production! Our powwow truly is a magical experience, and it is our pleasure to share it with each of you, and those you love, year after year. Here's to our 35th annual powwow weekend September 16-17, 2011!

  • Please get rid of the background music so that the drum can be heard!

  • @wolfoxwmn - thanks for your suggestion! We appreciate your ideas and will keep this in mind as we create new videos to share.

  • I was there last year...drove all the way from Columbiana, Ohio.....And I'm gonna miss it this year...ALOT someday I will come back for good though. :)

  • Thank you for posting this video! I am in the process of teaching my 2/3s about other cultures and this video is a great representation of the colors, songs, traditional dress, and celebration. Very well done! Kudos on the preservation of such a rich culture!

  • This is such a wonderful video! It does the incredible students, teachers, staff, and families at St Jo's the justice they deserve. Thank you for including the work that goes into the powwow as well. Please, keep these incredible videos coming!

  • This event should be on everyone's "bucket list" you must be there to celebrate with the children and the school. We just got home from our visit to St. Joe's and we're already talking about next year! Pilamaya!

  • How wonderful and thrilling to see these young people doing so well. I was born in SD 72 years ago and haven't been back in a very long time. I would haved loved to be there for this. Pilamaya!

  • An awesome video! While the background music might have been a bit too loud, it added enormously to the video. It doesn't need to be removed at all because it was beautiful -- maybe just turned down just a tad so we can better hear the drums and the singing. It was pure pleasure to watch the children and to see their faces glowing with excitement, happiness and pride in their regalia and their heritage. I couldn't be there in person so this helped a whole lot and I'm glad I got to see this!

  • Yes, I agree. Tone the background music so we can hear the drums and the chants from the dancers.

Very pretty outfits, great cause and wonderful program!

    Thanks for shairing!
