Dunrovin Retreat Center annually has special camping experiences for middle school kids from San Miguel Schools in Minneapolis and Chicago. Some students are troubled. Some are frightened. Often students get off the bus with street-smart attitudes and glares, expected to be greeted with suspicion and prejudice. We welcome them with great enthusiasm, feed them well, and demonstrate Gods love. They are wowed by the Minnesota woods and the St. Croix River. According to the teachers, principals, and students, a trip to Dunrovin is a major motivator that encourages them to complete their work and meet behavioral goals. They experience everything from canoeing, to kayaking, to wall climbing, from water sliding, to state park exploration, from making a s'more to catching a fish many of these for the first time ever. The transformation in many of these kids is miraculous.
This video, taken by a college student friend isn't fancy, but it captures this camp experience. Learn how you can help at: www.dunrovin.org
