@exrock712 a few differences; jihads are brainwashed into believing they go to heaven when they die, there are many more united because of their delusional beliefs, they are being attacked by outsiders (rather than insiders, although eastern countries are now involved), there are many more places to hide as the countries are not as built up and there is virtually no border control (to pakistan etc) and they have been raised to fight/in a war zone so are more used to violence in the first place.

Comparatively speaking, these spoiled kiddies of Western society were cowards compared to today's hardcore jihadis.
