Beverly Sills at Hunter College recorded live october 3, 1970.
Arranged by Roland Gagnon, her long-time coach and ornamentation
advisor.
The "aria" contents parts of:

Il Barbieri di Siviglia
Ariadne Auf Naxos
Mignon
Le coq d'or
Die Zauberflöte
Manon
I Puritani
Der Hirt auf dem Felsen (By Schubert)
Lucia di Lammermoor
Nocturne op. 9, No. 2 (by Chopin)
Les côntes d'Hoffmann
La Traviata

I know the fast-made video is very bad....but the important is what you hear.

Cheers!

  • This was lovely - video and Bubbles! Thank you!

  • This was fabulous--and fun!! How many did everyone catch?! What a divine singer-- and great comedienne!! We miss Beverly!

  • When people say "why do you love Beverly Sills?" THIS is why!!

She truly loved to sing and had fun doing it- not an easly combination for some singers to pull off!

Oh, by the way, that's Roland Gagnon singing as her "Alfredo" in the Traviata clip!

  • Also, that final cadenza is from "O luce di quest'anima", but in a different key, I think (I didn't check the key, but it sounds lower).

  • You forgot one right before the Manon...Amor, by Richard Strauss! I've loved this performance since I first heard it in the 70s.

  • you forgot a tiny part of the song "Amor" by Strauss in the List!

  • I own the Sillsiana CD album. Sills is in great "early" voice ('68, '69, '70) and she sings arias that were not commercially available - Gounod's Juliet's Waltz, Ernani Involami, Baroque arias from Semele, Mozart (Abduction from Seraglio) and the finale from Lucrezia Borgia. It's a great CD

  • I love the transition between Hoffmann and Traviata.

This whole piece is wonderful and captures Sills at her absolute best.

    The singing is simply spectacular

  • Conductor Thomas Schippers said that Beverly Sills had the fastest voice alive. This performance supports his assertion. She was also a lot of fun and is greatly missed. Thank you for posting this.

  • I heard this years ago when I was a student and had forgotten it. Thanks for putting it up.
