With help from his son Gary, Jack Nicklaus shows how a good chip shot can lead to a good bunker shot. Nicklaus demonstrated these tips to young golfers from the First Tee program.
The great bunker players: Player, Von Nida etc. lay the club head back, as opposed to opening the face. Gary Nicklaus alluded to this when he stated that the leading edge is aimed at the flag. Just lean the handle of the club away from the flag. Most players even with an open club face (which does expose the bounce) have to much shaft lean at contact, thereby digging to deep and not slapping the sand. You can tell Gary learned a thing or two about bunkers from his namesake.
@dschultz6072 weight on your left foot, open your stance just as much as you open your clubface, swing across your body. that's about all you need to know. oh yeah don't bring your head up to look at the ball until you've completed the shot. it's a lot like a flop shot, just requires a bit of touch that can't be explained in words. make sure to FOLLOW THROUGH.
@bjan999 the hell do you want from him? just swing the dumb guy and hit the dumb guy into the dumb guy in the grass. use the bounce and have it glide across the sand. of course it's going to take a little practice to get a feel for how hard to swing but all you really have to do is keep your lower body quiet while swinging your arms and you'll never ever skull it or fat it.
