Starting and warmup of a Philips 35 watt D2R Automotive Xenon-Metal Halide HID lamp with the reflector removed.

This type of lamp is commonly used for headlights in luxury vehicles such as Mercedes, BMW, or Lexus.

Automotive Metal Halide lamps are commonly called "xenon lamps" due to the presence of xenon gas used to fill the arc tube. The xenon gas allows these lamps to provide a minimally adequate amount of light upon startup. If this lamp was filled with argon instead as is commonly done in street lamps or other stationary HID lamps; it would take several minutes for it to reach full brightness vs 30 seconds.

  • Great video! That bulb sure was light and I like the way at start up when the bulb was a blue colour and why did the camera brighten the image up at 0:12 seconds? Mabey it was brightening the back ground up. 5 Stars!

  • I guess at 12 sec, that has to be the camera adjusting for the brightness and focus.

  • How can i test that without putting it in the car??

  • Find out which wire on the ballast input is positive and which one is negative. You can hook it up to a small battery or use jumper cables to a car battery.

  • does that bulb get REALY hot?

  • can i add Philips Xenon into a mercedes CLC ??

    please help me iout

  • That line is not over exposure, That line is because the CCD is being physically over loaded by the light intensity, it can and will eventually burn out those pixels on the CCD. Trust me, I've had this happen.

  • its not going to burn out the Camera's CCD,its there because the Bright Light source is causing overexposure.

  • fuck u spammer

  • It actually does not matter because even if you are driving at night, a couple seconds is fast when you think about it. Also with HID and you will be able to see way better than regular halogen lights.

  • do you have

HID xenon kit will give me full Lighting power

    Less than one second

not taking 4 to 6 seconds for full light

startup of its full light in less than one second
