Michael Jackson 1958-2009: The Life and Legacy of the King of Pop

Fans around the world are still mourning the passing of Michael Jackson, the King of Pop. Jackson catapulted to fame on the Motown Records label as the youngest member of the Jackson 5 but soon embarked on a solo career that made him the biggest star in the country and one of the most globally recognized entertainers. Michael Jacksons immensely popular music, dance moves and videos were known and loved across the world, but in the last decade of his life, it was his multiple plastic surgeries and allegations of child molestation that dominated media attention. We take a look at the life and legacy of the pop icon with Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Margo Jefferson, author of On Michael Jackson, and Duke University professor Mark Anthony Neal. • This world is a cold place without MIchael Jackson!

  • Margo Jefferson you seem to have swallowed all the venom you had spit into that book of yours, but your greedy teeth still show that you have actually no idea what are you talking about concerning Michael, you just like to say big words about famous people like him and for that you won the Pulitzer prize?!

  • the black woman is an asshole

  • gotta say i was going to buy Margo's book but the freak -that is not anything i want to read and would tell folks to stay away from her book. We all did not act of feel as you say the fans did. I do not appreciate you- pull your facts b. and accept that he had a skin problem -i am so disgusted in this part of the interview. ugly and shame of her for these comments - I am very sad this BS is even on YT and presented as fact -these people are so aloof, crude and rude to his legacy -nasty

  • We're "unraveling" the falsehoods about MJ Including some misunderstandings

of MJ told in this vid, also.

Michael Jackson grew into a man of great wisdom, make no mistake about it.

I tire of the insinuations that he had become a child in a man's body.

  • Exactly the problem - his personal life became as much of a show as his performance.

I never found his personal life...his hurt, his pain, his sorrows...something fun to watch...that is sick.

I prefer to enjoy his music and his dancing...his art...for Michael Jackson his hurt and pain most likely led to his great art...as with all great artists...

  • you are right about that..you have to understand Michael Jackson had alot of dissenters..so all she's doing is covering the whole spectrum..It's hard to hear her opinion but MJ became the Greatest Entertainer of the World...thats why his life is so much under scrutiny..Lets try to be nuetral about our protection of Michael..I Love and miss him as well..

  • I cant believe this guy james baldwin had to defend mj back in 1985!!! did this man never get any appreciation? even back then!!

  • MJ performing in white face? What a horrible analogy. Its almost as though she actually believed MJ bleached his skin because he hated being black..

  • you don't know the particulars, but your book tells me that you have the particulars. Lady you are a full of shit. And no the irony is listening to you talk to your bullshit! I am afraid how you raised your children lady!
