this performance of Richter is one of the cultural achievements of the XX century

Carlos Balbi Pianista Uruguayo.

I'm always astonished by the fecundity of Mozart's musical imagination.

Pero qué versión más sosa, ¡por Dios!

Richter was considered one of the greatest virtuosi of the 20th century. He was 79 here, but his age was probably not the cause of his using a score as he had over 80 memorised programmes; I believe he felt it improved his focus on the music .(Liszt began the fetish of playing 'sans music; but. tf conductor and orchestra have music then why not the soloist. There's nothing wrong with his technique, either, as can be seen here. Gilels considered Richter to be the superior player, by the way.

...the sight of Richter walking in like this carrying his sheet music, followed by his page turner...almost beats the music...note, his puss ain't doing nothing, the freaking Mount Rushmore here...how come?...

I think this is Richter's last recorded orchestral performance.
