She could also have painted these pictures as a reflection of her deep depression and hopelessness in the face of unavoidable execution. Imagine YOU were in her shoes, would you be painting pretty, vibrant pictures full of light and colour? The fact that she depicted dark, depressing images does not necessarily point to guilt - Isn't there a likelihood that she was misled by her boyfriend, isn't there a likelihood that she was naive?
