A new module would still be quite expensive from Kipor, but used parts and non-working units show up on fleabay or on locals such as craigslist and kajiji quite often. I saw one sell some time ago with the engine not working. You could use your good engine to fix the Kipor instead in such a case. Some of them can be paired with a cable to double the wattage like the Honda's do.
I think your best bet would be to mickeymouse an external 12 volt inverter to it. You may even find one small enough to fit inside the box of the generator.
what was the voltage out of the generator befofe it went to the inverter? was it ac or dc voltage
