Hi carlitoo2001,
There is a technique called NBT that you can generate boosts through extended slides. This is used to cut sand and grass to achieve faster times.
This vid was done with an emulator to provide a vision of an approximate limit on the track using save states
On the SNES (US Japanese version) the actual World Record is a mid 56 seconds, and 58"3x on PAL.
I have a video of my British Record using old style jumping round corners at 1:00.99, check it out aswell.
