LSK "was famous for throwing matches"? I've never heard that one before ... in the Danish press it has always been suggested that he was ordered to lose those finals against Hartono in 1976 and 1980 and that the 1978 final was proof that he could have defeated Hartono (particularly in the 1980 final) ... but your explanation seems just as plausible!

By the way: Do you sell badminton dvds? I would love to buy some from you!

If LSK was so good he wouldn't have lost in the 1977 WC or AE

and PBSI would not have to coax Hartono out of retirement in 1978

to help LSK gain the 1978 AE.Again in 1980 when LSK lost to Prakash,

PBSI had to recall Hartono from retirement to help LSK win 1981 AE.

That is not to say LSK is no good, he was just not ready to take over from

Hartono.

I am very sure that there are many unseen footage lying around in private

collections in Denmark,Sweden or Holland. Best example are the rare clips from

"Sportens Hall of Fame'.You just have to ask and if the footage was ever recorded

Tjun Tjun and Johan Wahudi retired in 1981.

Johan Wahudi was injured and could not play in 1980.

The person who shared the videos just did not have the MS.

I suspect that the section of the Betamax tape was abused

and could not be recovered.Or perhaps the MS tape just went

missing.

If you ask me among the MD greatest old timers were Hammergard

Hansen and the late Finn Kobberro and Tjun Tjun and Johan Wahudi.

As more recent ones I wont try as there are too many. I also have

a very clear video of Tjun Thun in 1980 China-Ina match.

And how come you have the MS semi-finals of the 1980 WC and, if I remember correctly, some of the finals but not the MS final? I know this must be a difficult question to answer, but if you were to name the 10 best MS players of all time, who would you chose? Just to name them, not necessarily rank them And in the MD Who would make your top 10? I remember seeing Tjun Tjun & Wahjudi as a kid and thinking Tjun Tjun was SOOOOO cool! Do you know why he and Wahjudi didn't participate in the 1980 WC?

Another way of looking at it might be that in 1976

Liem Swie King was only 20 years old and no match

for veteran Hartono at 26.It showed when LSK was

beaten that year by Hou Jia Chang and a year later by

Thomas Khilstrom in WC and Delfs in AE.But whatever it

is most people are inclined to believe that the results were

too good to be true.

Then again it might not be a decision by the PBSI

but rather a pact between friends.LSK was famous

for throwing matches to encourage his teammates.

At that time Ina was dominant in badminton like China

today,China is doing what Ina was notorious for ages

ago.But I doubt if such "unsporting" behaviour is limited

to China or Indonesia, or even badminton ,we only have

to look at Cycling,or F1 and many team sports.

Well people who watched the 1976 final felt that LSK wasn't really trying,as if he wasn't interested. People who watched the 1978 Final commented that Rudy was playing lacklustre. It might be councidence but what was at stake in 1976 was Kop's AE record, whilst in 1978 it was a question of succession.Just like 1983, so LSK was unlucky to be twice runner-up. 1980 was all together different,you can read accounts of it from my articles in mynahbird's badminton blog. We will never know.
