@mikey51694 I think this is probably correct. Mendez may never be excelled. Wynton Marsalis probably achieved what he achieved with less effort, and surely he is close to Mendez, but still Mendez has a drama and a precision that is unique.

The only other version I'd heard up till today was Esquivel's fantastic take on this classic and it truly creates a vision of a bullfight in crystal clear stereophonic sound!!!. Now I have to find out who played the trumpet on that recording.Thanks for posting mikey 51694!

I've owned all 11 of his Decca recordings for decades and just discovered this feast online. What a treat to have such quality right here in my computer. Thank you, Mikey! I thought I was the only total fan of this incomparable talent. Rafael Mendez was the greatest trumpet player ever, and always will be. Every note rings with his passion for music and life. Just listening to him is rapture.
