Why the use of QR codes in the video-art project "Aesthetics of Decay;Design for Dying Electronics" by [dNASAb]?
]_ Turn your "i" device into a "we" device, in the same vein as the iPod and iPad ecosystem sculptures. In a sense, tricking them to collaborate in the actualization of the project. A small networked hive of video, launching video, and distributing the video to other devices.
]_Bring the 2-dimensional youtube video, into the 3rd-dimension via the use of smart devices.I envision an ad-hoc network of devices (iPhone's, iPad's, Androids, etc) working harmoniously together to create an interactive, multi-channel video installation. Like my video sculptures that utilize 3-dimensional sculptural components in that space between the screen and the viewer, this piece is also designed to function in this in-between zone, (which just happens to be a zone underutilized in contemporary sculpture). Albeit it will take the active participation of each viewer, and how the installation materializes is dependant on that interactivity and participation. For the majority of the history of film and video, we are more often than not, passive observers of video. Those times are changing as quickly as the mediuns and players themselves.
]_The use of QR codes are espeiallly relevant to this particular project because the intended viewing surface" of the images illustrating the inevitability of the death of your device" is your smart phone or tablet. Virtually rendering your phone, temporarily, near its death. It is being broken, tortured and is decaying.."
]_My iterest in the broken screen stems from my experiences of non-art world viewers wondering why i have destroyed such a nice tv with my sculptural enhancements. In reference as to how most of us utilize our screen based technologies, I have rendered it useless for most of the activities we rely on these technologies to display. One would not choose one of my LCD Blosom sculptures to view the "Big Game",watch the "Jersey Shore",or view mainstream media news.In my concept I have not destroyed the screen but augmented and enhanced it, turning it from a large edition "cloned"consumer electronic into a unique 1 of 1 art object.
