The RenCANssance Center is downtown Detroit's iconic skyscraper located on the Detroit River, an international waterway bordering the U.S.A. and CANada. Our CANterpretation consists of a group of five towers representing the central tower and Towers 100-400 of Detroit's GM Renaissance Center. In our CANstructure, each tower of the ReCANssance Center represents one of the five major food groups; vegetables grains, fruit, protein, and dairy. Our design symbolizes the combination of all five of these food groups into a healthy, balanced diet. At the base of the five towers, representing the lowest circulation levels of the Center, is water - a main ingredient in all foods and the most basic foundation of good health. Overall, the structure includes more than 1,5-- cans of carrots, lasagna, peaches, pork and beans, and evaporated milk, plus over 400 bottles of water. The ReCANssance Center will provide hundreds of well-balanced meals to the hungry of Southeastern Michigan. Promotion of good health through balanced nutrition is an essential and necessary element of Detroit's rebirth or renaissance...or, in this case, it's RenCANssance!
