NEW CASTLE, Pa.- Eight New Castle residents face a long list of charges connecting them to a series of arsons that have plagued the city for two years. Investigators say all eight suspects know each other, but did not carry out the arsons as a group.
Police Chief Tom Sansone tells WCN 24/7's Adam Plyler that many of the fires were set by two or three of those arrested at a time. They also are looking into a connection to the theft of copper pipes from buildings that were torched.
New Castle Police, State Police and federal agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrested the eight overnight. They also say three of the suspects have confessed.
The arrests solve dozens of fires that have burned vacant buildings and homes all over New Castle-- but many hit East Side neighborhoods.
Two suspects were teenagers and their names were not released. The other six facing charges are:
23-year old Ruben Suarez
23-year old Steven Sheridan
21-year old Mark Quear
20-Year old Stephen Threats
20-year old Darrell Rice, Jr.
24-year old Rachelle Lombardo
