MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia @ Sunway Lagoon

The unpredictable weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of 15,000 music fans to gather at Sunway Lagoon Resort and be part of MTVs World Stage concert. Lending new meaning to come rain or shine the concert goers weathered the rain to hold their spot after queuing over three hours before the gates officially opened to allow them in at 4 pm.
The fans were there to watch Kasabian, all American Rejects, Hoobastank, Pixie Lott, Boys Like Girls, Raygun and our countrys very own Estranged.
When the security finally opened the gates, the huge crowd rushed to the surf beach where the water had been drained to accommodate the crowd that night. MTV Asia VJs Denise, Utt, Taya, MTV Korea VJ, Sean and MTV China VJ, Andy were there to hype the crowd up.
The crowd came to a roaring cheer when Estranged, the first band to come up on stage, started their set with a familiar guitar riff of The Slave In Us.
What was different with this band was that they instructed the crowd to get down on their knees and those who were at the mosh pit proceeded to follow the instructions. The moment when the lead vocalist shouted Jump! the crowd leapt to their feet in unison.
Boys Like Girls took the stage next with the song Love Drunk from their upcoming album. This Massachusetts band got the crowd bopping along with their next song Thunder. Just as the introduction began, the skies opened up and started to drizzle as if on cue, setting the scene as the crowd was eased into the chorus with their hands waving in the air.
Soon, it was Rayguns turn. The Brit band whose music leans towards glam rock showed Malaysians just what we have been missing. With their debut single Just Because being played, the crowd wasted no time bobbing their heads up and down. The band continued to impress the rest of the crowds and by the end of their set; the audience was shouting We want more! We want more!
Hearing that itself would have been an accomplishment, as it shows how Rayguns successfully made their mark in Malaysia.
The sole rose among the thorns came in a form of Pixie Lott whos recognised for tunes like Turn It Up, Boys and Girls and her number one hit Mama Do. Complying with concert rules, she turned up in a glittering, long peach dress.
After she hit her last note, MTV VJs Denise, Sean and Andy appeared on stage, and called upon Hoobastank. The girls screamed even louder at the sight of Doug Robb, the lead singer.
In no time, the audience started moshing to hits like My Turn, The Letter, Crawling in the Dark. The crowd was then pleasantly surprised when a familiar tune came on air, Ghostbusters.
This prompted the audience to scream out the lyrics to which. at the end of the song, a bewildered Doug, exclaimed You guys are ridiculous!
In what was the second last performance of the day, The All American Rejects performed to an even louder audience. Easily rated one of the highest point of the event, vocalist Tyson Ritter in striking yellow was decorated with glitter from his face to his arms.
The band gave a brilliant performance starting with one of their older hits Dirty Little Secret, Swing Swing and their latest hit I Wanna. During their interval, the keyboardist began playing solo which lead to it being the opening intro to It Ends Tonight.
Kasabian came on as the last and much anticipated performance. All the way from United Kingdom, the band which has numerous number one hits opened their set with pyrotechnics and hits like Fire, Club Foot and Vlad the Impaler.
MTV World Stage really lived up to its world class billing.
