The final and concluding part of this seven part review exploring the failed system, the Philips CD-I. If you haven't seen the previous six parts, you can view them using the links below.

*** NOTE ONE ***

The save feature isn't really a flaw. The older cartridge based systems used save batteries as well, NES, Genesis, SNES, N64, etc. The only difference was the battery was on the cartridge. The Saturn and the Sega CD also had save batteries inside the system and eventually the batteries for all these aforementioned systems and cartridges will go out and need to be replaced. I can't believe I didn't know this beforehand.

  • did they use batteries in memory card for ps1 and such?

will they run out someday too?

  • There were some third party cards that stored a large amount of data that had a battery but the regular memory cards did not.

  • Actually, when the Mario, Zelda and Link CDi games were released, they weren't released by the actual company that was mentioned on the contract, so that's another reason for failiure of the CDi: they were breaking MAJOR copyright laws, and they were scared of getting sued too much money and stopped producing them just a while after the release date.

  • No they were not breaking copyright. Nintendo gave them a license as part of the dissolution agreement when the CD based add on.

  • Wow, then some people have some really strange idea about this console and its games... O.o

  • It's common knowledge amongst gamers how these games came about and I outlined this in the second part of my Wand of Gamelon review. Go to any CD-I website or wikipedia and they will tell you the same thing.....That Hotel Mario and the unholy triforce were licensed after the CD based addon fell throught. I have never heard of copyright infringement involving these games and if it was, there would of been a massive lawsuit. I know of no such lawsuit.

  • Oh, I remember the informercials... I wanted those Zelda games soo bad... I seem to remember the local library having one, but all they had was chess and a hand full of crap...

  • Granted, I had to spend a lot ($250 or so) to get the cd-i and hotel mario game because they are rare, (which ironically is much lessb than the cd-i alone cost origionally , although you knew that from watching). While it wasn't worth quite that much money in my opinion, but the facts still stand that the game and console don't deserve hate.

  • I agree with his statement about hotel mario and the band wagon. Seriously, how many people have personally played hotel mario? If your answer is no then you really have no right to bash it. IT's like saying a movie sucks when you haven't even seen it just because a few ctitics say that, the term suck is subject to each person's opinion. As someone who actually owns a cd-i and has played hotel mario, I will say it doesn't suck.

  • @thee3nd in my opinion, Hotel Mario may just be one of the greatest games ever from how bad it was! i mean really! have you seen how many youtube poops people have made out of those cut scenes?

  • @TheaonicAdversary I can. The animation is in the same style as the Mario Bros. cartoon.

  • I realize you may not read this comment(especially considering you are not currently associating with this website) but I really enjoy the videos on your channel. This series and your other videos are all very informative and well thought out. Also your personality is very likeable(to me) and I would be very happy if you were to start this channel up again.

  • I really enjoyed this series!

  • I'm sad you're on a hiatus, no matter where you are, home, accounting agency, the moon, nintendo, jail, atlantis, good luck, I'll just wait, your videos are woth that, also, in the future, if you ever return, in the description, put something like everything copyright nintendo and Phillips, it'll help you get out of lots of trouble.

  • @thee3nd if you could review Superman 64 for "bad finds" i would appreciate it.

  • I wonder how a random guy felt when he bought Zedla's Adventure for 20 bucks in the 90s. Then sell it for 150 today.
