Demo multiplexing 4 digit 7-segment LED display with Arduino two potentiometers one controlling value to display (0-1000) other controlling delay of multiplexing (1-100ms) sketch will be posted if requested and once cleaned up and commented

Components:
4 Digit 7-Segment Common Cathode LED Display (LTC-4727JR)
8-bit Shift Register (74HC595N)
.1uF Capacitor
4x NPN Transistor (2N3904BU)
2x 50K Ohm Linear Potentiometers
4x 320 Ohm Resistor (Per Cathode (lazy configuration))
4x 1K Ohm Resistor (Per Base on Transistor)
