  • Using a megaphone for vocal amplification over a microphone. Who else but Byrne?

  • Tom Waits

  • Brilliant, been serching for this performance for years, even written to channel 4 for a copy. Superb - You just made my year

  • Were channel 4 co-operative - do you think they would be willing to broadcast it again?

  • just had a look in your videos, the tracks i cant see are SLIPPERY PEOPLE and WHAT A DAY THAT WAS.

  • Both left off here because of little or no live footage of band. If you have a complete copy of the transmission I would still like to have a look if it could be arranged.

  • This song is rare as can be. Talking heads played it like this only a few times in 1982 (mostly at big festivals like the Montreaux Jazz Festival)This footage is taken from an 82 concert, obviously this was the rehearsal. This song disappears for years, reappearing on Byrne's solo "Catherine Wheel" Album; but it would incarnate sounding totally different. The creepy loudspeaker effect remains in only two or three performances from 1982 and this is one of them. Nice post.

  • Superb song, and very well presented, but I can't help feeling the song's attitude to prostitution and the loneliness and despair is ultimately somewhat voyeuristic.

That said, I agree with drnatej79 that just listening to the song makes the problems seem beatable...

  • I don't know why, but this song makes my head to feel "I can get over it all" whenever I'm afraid I can't. Thanks.
