Surely, there were large Jewish communities in Ukraine, especially in the cities of Vilna and Lubavitch! If your grandmother spoke Hebrew so yes she is surly Jewish!

I believe the Hasidics are entitle to categorize dance as they please..as it is every ones right...to judge yourself and no others on this issues... is what is the heart that matters...sometimes when you judge others all you are mirroring is your own mental bias..and who is free from that??? you want to be pure??? then be pure in your heart in all you do. and don't judge others.

There is no way to be respectful and decent by dancing separately. Actually, best way to show respect and decent is to dance with the ladies. Otherwise, it is only fear - of what you could feel, of what you could see, where Tora does not forbid you to mix or see anything that God created. And fear leads to discrimination.
