The dulcimer is tuned DAA and is played in the traditional style with a noter, which in this case is a walnut scrap of wood rounded so as to slide over the two melody strings. The other two strings are allowed to drone throughout the song. A second dulcimer playing harmony is off camera. This dulcimer is modeled somewhat after the Box Dulcimers that have been found in Tennessee. The brass on each end is symbolic of the metal on the ends that seems to be typical of many of the Box Dulcimers. The tuning pins are on the bottom of the instrument where most other dulcimers have tuners at the top. The dulcimer is built of solid oak that was obtained in a local lumber store and a Sitka Spruce top that was mail-ordered from a luthier supplier.
