As to the many comments saying it WAS built by Boeing, perhaps we have a simple misunderstanding.
While the plane was designed by Boeing, I think the one I was lucky enough to crawl around in may have been built by Vega/Douglas, as referenced here:
"The "F" was the first B-17 variant to be produced by all of the "B.V.D." companies (Boeing, Lockheed/Vega, and Douglas). Because of the pressing demand for the Flying Fortress, Boeing provided blueprints and cooperation for the B-17 to be built at the Douglas plant in Long Beach and the Vega plant in Burbank. Altogether, they would turn out 3405 B-17Fs: 2300 by Boeing, 605 by Douglas, and 500 by Lockheed/Vega. The first B-17F flew in May, 1942. "
Thanks for all the great comments on the plane. . .let's try to keep it respectful with regards to the rest. Clearly there are many atrocities committed by all governments.

How come no one has mentioned the small PAYLOAD of a B-17? One Fortress, with crew of 11, carried HALF the bomb-load of a Lancaster with a crew of 6..Specialy prepared Lancasters carried up to four times the load of a B17.. However, I do like very much the B-29.. Now that is a plane!
Good video but just a few mistakes. He forgot that the Navigator sat in the nose with the Bombardier and you can see his table in the video. He also forgot about the .50 that was in the Radio compartment. The plexy window there could slide back and a type of bow mount could be swung up allowing the Radio Operator to stand and assist the top gunner. Not a good position to be in as he was exposed to the elements and the wind. Fantastic aircraft and still beautiful!
I'm in America, I have an uncle that fought from Normandy and was in the Battle of the Bulge and another that flew the B-17. I for my self lived next to a German SS soldier. I can tell you honestly that most Americans do not hate Germans even my Uncles. I'm in the military and have always wanted to be stationed in Germany but never got that assignment. The time that you speak of was a bad time but that is over. Hang in there my friend you live in a great country! Stay safe Y'all!
