During the fourth and fifth days of the 2nd Annual SCU Alumni Immersion Trip to New Orleans, the group traveled to St. Bernard Parish to help rebuild homes with the St. Bernard Project. Following Hurricane Katrina and the levee breaks, the Parish was inundated with rainwater and floodwater averaging 6 to 12 feet in depth for nearly two weeks. Families lost everything, more than 200 residents died and 100 percent of the homes were officially named uninhabitable. Since the store about 25 percent of the homes, parks and businesses have been rebuilt, but there is still a lot of work to be done. The SCU group was divided into groups of three and worked on five different homes. They did a variety of things including, mudding, sanding, texturing, painting and putting in pergo flooring.
