They are moving faster than you think. I do this as a cop every so often. Of course we practice too. Safety is always an issue for us. The first time my heart was pumping faster than ever before. Now six years, the is caution side of me, but it's not so bad.

@SWAT518 to my knowledge this is just for a drop off where time and safety isnt an issue, were as fast rope is to drop off quickly in a danger zone.

@JammyJack1 You certainly can in the UK, A friend of mine is in the AAC (Army Air Corp) and he's done this before from a Lynx helicopter.

this may sound stupid... but why not just fast rope?

This course focused rappeling, so this was the culminating event, a UH60 rappel from 90 feet. This can be done from higher and is more deliberate than a fast rope (which is faster and more hasty)
