it doesn't go into the atmosphere, at least not for long. soot is heavy and falls to the ground. the soot would have to be extremely concentrated in a very small area for it to actually damage any living organism.

@paintballkid21221, Global warming is a Myth you fucking tool. #1, Kilauea, the worlds most active volcano, spews out more Co and Co2 in one day than humans have...EVER. #2) We just left an ICE AGE less than 7,000 years ago so no flippin shit pal...we're getting a bit warmer. #3) the black that comes out of a diesel is soot, solid particle, ashes, NOT CHEMICAL meaning it falls to the ground as dust dicknose, so no sweetheart...no air pollution for you.

@neezocrene , A compression release engine brake, frequently called a Jake brake or Jacobs brake, is an engine braking mechanism installed on some diesel engines. When activated, it opens exhaust valves in the cylinders, releasing the compressed air trapped in the cylinders, and slowing the vehicle,it is used primarily on semi trucks for it allows safe braking on long distances while not wearing down your brake pads, and it sounds fucking awesome :)
