The packed-house crowd at the Waverley Hotel in Cumberland was enchanted with Tambura Rasa's amalgam of Flamenco, Gypsy, Balkan, funk, reggae, rock, Latin and more on March 13, 2010, especially with the Flamenco dancer. The music proved a buoyant cultural cross-pollination, fusing contemporary grooves and traditional rhythms into one energetic musical brand, fronted by fiery Spanish guitar, a violinist who could make his instrument sing, and burning Afro-Latin percussion. Such a treat!
Huge thanks to Vig and the Cumberland Village Works crew, who have made top-level musical culture a near-weekly event in the Comox Valley.
