Betty Grable was actually the original lead assigned to star in this musical at FOX. She refused stating that she had just completed an exhausting shoot starring in "MEET ME AFTER THE SHOW." This resulted in one of a series of suspensions that FOX subjected their pin-up girl superstar to before she parted ways with them a few years later. This was June Haver's last film. She retired from Hollywood and entered a CONVENT right after it was completed! Later, she married Fred MacMurray!!!
wow! now i know why dennis day never made it in the movies. he was stiff, too self-aware of the camera and his tenor voice sounded too much like the female singers- no contrast. but, still one of the great radio comedians of all times!
@innit27 interesting u say that. his very earliest role in the late 1930's was playing a nazi thug in a beer hall putsch scene in which he starts a mob into beating up a jew in austria. he also played in a movie with gene kelly while they were both in the middle of a career tailspin in the middle 1950's in which they play very non-sympathetic characters. but he will always be remembered for musicals and comedies.
