There was no lack of suspense in high school boys basketball on Thursday.

Wauseon took their undefeated record into hostile territory at Swanton. After trailing by seven at halftime, the Indians outscored the Bulldogs 13-2 in the third quarter to take a four point lead into the final period. The home side of stands started heading for the exits after the visitors built a double digit lead halfway through the 4th.

But the 'Dawgs still had some bite. Dylan Verdell hit his only shot of the game, a three pointer from the corner, to cut the Wauseon lead to three with just 19.1 seconds left. After an Indians free throw, Travis Hilton drove up court and hit an off balance three to make it a one point game with 8.3 seconds left. After two more free throws, Swanton had a chance to tie with three seconds left, but Hilton's desperation half court shot fell short as time expired.

"It was very emotional, what a heated crowd, a great crowd, a great atmosphere, a big NWOAL game...to their credit they made a lot of shots...we were able to step up and make enough free throws to come out in the end," said Wauseon head coach Chad Burt. The Indians are now 8-0.

Meanwhile, Ottawa Hill edged Delta at home on a last second shot 51-49, and Patrick Henry defeated Evergreen 54-26.
