This is the test of my bicycle wheel wind turbine. It works way better than I thought it would.

  • I found this video because I was looking for a similar design using a bicycle wheel; yours is the closest i've seen to what I had in mind. I live in Louisiana and winds are very light here. What would you say the top windspeed was durring testing?

  • @windsunvolts This is a total guess, but I would say around 15 mph. Thank you for the question, Lonny

  • Hey what would you use to take the turbines power and charge batteries with it.

  • @88bobo111 I have a older video called "how I built my first horizontal axis turbine (hawt) part 2. Near the end of the video, I go into detail on how I hooked up one of my older wind turbines. I think that video might help answer that question. Thank you for the question, Lonny

  • Excellent work, very well done with so few materials. Congratulations. One question, what kind of engine did you use?

  • @edpa25 I used a dc motor out of a free treadmill that I got from craigs list. Thanks for the question, Lonny

  • Great work Lonny! I've watched lots of your videos and I think what you're doing is fantastic. Very inspiring. I hope to start some projects of my own this summer. Keep up the good work! I'll be watching! -Nick

  • You achieved some neat visual effects when those blades matched the fps (speed) of the video. ☼-€ :o)

  • A long coil spring with a pulley attached makes a simple, function, inexpensive belt tensioner. At least on other contraptions I've built. LOL

I'll be building a generator soon I think. I love the idea and have most of the materials.

  • The main problem is how to attach the hub of the bycicle wheel to the wood plank.

  • Look for a treadmill motor used on 220VDC. More volts per rev. Or rewind your existing one.
