Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia (later Duchess of Edinburgh and Duchess of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha; 17 October 1853 24 October 1920) was a daughter of Alexander II of Russia and Empress Maria Alexandrovna. Maria became the wife of Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, the second son of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
From 1893 until her death, she had the distinction of being a Russian Grand Duchess (by birth), a British Royal Duchess (by marriage), and the consort (and later widow) of a German Sovereign Duke.
I see similarities between her and her nephew Nicky.

she would not accept that she was obliged to take precedence accorded to her by marriage rather than her birth and drove the royal family to distraction by her constant carping that a daughter of the Tsar should have precedence over The Princess of Wales, wife of the heir to the throne . The last Duchess of Coburg. Legend says that when German courts disappeared at the end of World War 1 she dropped dead of a heart attack after being addressed as Frau Coburg
The Marie biscuit is named after her
