Leo Kottke plays Morning Is the Long Way Home in 1977 when he's a weird 32 year old kid with puffy hair and sideburns. He's unbelievable.

  • I've had the pleasure of seeing him live - Truly one of the greatest musicians on Earth... He also has a wicked sense of humour.

  • What a f'in genius. He really is probably one of the best finger style guitarist out there. I'm gonna see his in three weeks for the annual Thanksgiving show at the Minneapolis State Theatre. Always an awesome concert.

  • i saw him this summer and he is just like me,i'm slowin'down.not so many rapid licks anymore and i went on line to find some info.it appears he has some trouble playing the early stuff because it causes wrist problems.i can't only imagine playing the strings this hard for so many years.my guitar hero.

  • Isn't this song called "Mona Ray?"

  • wow he's young there.... great stuff.

  • @1crow

haha! totally dude....you are a source of thruth and inspiration to all.

(I think you might be on the wrong page, by the way)

  • @Tman4000 I f the year is right, should be. He had a boyish face. Probably still getting carded

  • Saw him at Philadelphia Spectrum in '75. He was one of the opening acts for Linda Rondstedt (I did actually go to see him). Previously had only heard him on tapes. I was blown away. Saw him again in Cleveland around '84 at the old Agora. He could still blow people away with the sound he generated picking that 12 string.

  • Kottke is one of those involuted virtuosos whose ability to play is paramount. his taste in music is just that, his taste. but as a player: has anyone ever heard anyone who can match him? saw him in late 70s in Ann Arbor. close your eyes and you would swear two or three players were on the stage.

  • one of the reasons I play guitar

fave comment from one of his album covers:

"Leo probably made as many people put down the guitar out of shame as he inspired to pick it up"!

  • HOT DAMN HE IS FLIPPIN' GOOD!!!!!! Rmember seeing him at Alice Tully Hall, in NYC, when he opened for John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Now THAT'S dichotomy for ya!!!!!!
