Anita O'Day was (she died last year) one of those truly greatjazz-vocalists who inspire me to sing along. There are two reasons for this: the freedom of her delivery of well-known jazz-standards (especially while scatting) and her "camp style", which is probably best expressed in one of her titles: "Who Cares". May she rest in peace! She will always be with us in her songs.

  • It's probably better all round if you don't sing along!

  • @InnAb109 Bitch!

  • this song works better when singing about women.

  • In case you meant: "when sung by women" I agree. I was just interested from a musical point of view (the scatting).

  • that was beautiful

  • Thanks! But I think honestly, your home-page is too difficult to read. Love, Wolf

  • Love that voice. they don't make singers like this no more. it's so so sad. ms o day is pure classic jazz when it was at it's best. Scatting is such a lost art form. Thanks for the post.

  • Oh yays, yays. Is scat version with most certainly. Scatological, that is.

  • that guy singing behind is horrrrrible!

  • Why would this guy dub their crap into this song? I can't believe they really think they could improve on it. Specially when he can't really scat. I sit and listen to jazz daily and just hate when I run into such a great song and singer only to find it ruined by some dude that thinks he's really swinging with his scat.

  • AWSOME! Check this version out : youtube.com/watch?v=z0bp0go7tvs

  • @InnAb109 Uh, i''ll keep it respectfully clean, as this is a public forum by simply saying I gotta go with you and leave it at that...

  • dear heavens. who's the weirdo that ends up singing along with o'day?? sounds schizo and ruins the song. also, i'm scared now. 8-| make it stop! changing this.. NOW!

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Anita O'Day about 15 years ago. A truly great artist with a flair for squeezing more out of a lyric than any other singer, ever. Check out her version of "Ten Cents a Dance" to see what I mean.

  • hee hee hee! SCAT! hee hee
