Some clips from the 1990 World Cycling Championships. Sorry for the quality, but this is a transfer from videotape. On the track, Connie Paraskevin-Young takes on Renee Duprel for the match sprint championship. Towards the end of the clip there's footage from the US women's team time trial, and the women's road race (like 30 seconds each).

  • Why don't they just ride one lap as fast as possible, like keirin racing? I hate the cat and mouse games.

  • Because the guy behind would just draft the whole way and outsprint the other at the end. Being in the draft requires 40% less energy. If they didn't do the trackstands, it would just be a time trial.

  • It's part racing, part chess. It's an interesting game.

  • Are Greg Stink and Pete Twinkle the commentators? SNL

  • That is called a chariot race not involved in championship racing that is UCI's decision. You might think it is easy to ride slow but it takes a lot of energy.

  • And which (trackstands) were subsequently banned because they made it boring.

  • If you want to watch Keirin, watch Keirin. This is a whole different game. If everything were the same, nothing would be interesting!

  • Thank you so much for putting up this clip!!!
