I think you mix up France with an other country.

"There have been 53 major wars in Europe

France had been a belligerent in 49 of them; UK 43.

In 185 battles that France had fought over the past 800 years, their armies had won 132 times, lost 43 times and drawn only 10.

Giving the French military the best record of any country in Europe".

    BBC History

Before Irak invasion, they watched "La bataille d'Alger" in the Pentagone.

    Learn & show respect please.

  • @Guildou the only history the brits learn is history written by brits...

  • @Guildou Yes, we all know this. Somme offensive would have made or broke germany had we not intervened, albeit a long shot to say without us WW1 would have been won by the central powers, it isnt so much to say that Wilson wanted us in the war for prestige of his 14 points and The league of nations. Which just for funnies our own congress defeated and the european countries accepted. Isnt that a lol XD

  • @Guildou, the last thing I would add is that the British do know about French successes, I was amazed back in year 8 when I learnt about Napoleon's successes against Austria, Russia and Prussia but I can't help but realise when it came to French fighting the British in the Napoleonic era, we were victorious - Aboukir Bay, Trafalgar, Talavera, Vittoria, Waterloo... So in the last Anglo-French conflict the British are left with an image of our superiority in combat, that is all...

  • @Guildou, You do understand I am siding with you? I was simply stating that Eikkkn was wrong in regards to previous points. The problem is that Dien Bien Phu was a shock because Vietnamese troops typically seen as irregulars successfully defeated French troops in open combat and many French battles in WW1 involved extraordinary losses of life in return for victory (almost Pyrrhic in nature). I am not saying Britain is better than France or vice versa we both have proud military histories.

  • @Adamhistorybuff

You entered WW1 when European armies were already exhausted, especially German armies.

  • @fishbob1193

    3rd part :

Dien Bien Phu : the heroic resistance of a few French troops lost in the jungle against a huge army supported by China. The French Legionnaires jump on the battle to help their friends even if they know the battle is lost.

Algeria : successfull military operations, France won Algerian war, France gave independance to Algeria after a referendum given by De Gaulle.

    etc.

You remember important battles, because when France fight, it's always important

  • @fishbob1193

    2nd part :

France surrender in WW2, the biggest army of the time (France) + one of the best (England) lose the battle of France against the best motorized army of the time. Isn't it an important event ?

Verdun (it's a French victory btw), biggest and deadliest and most long battle of all times. Marne battle (it's a French victory too), a turning point in WW1, civilian cabs of Paris requisitioned to bring troops to the front, the war becomes a Total War.

  • @fishbob1193

You'd better guess it's because we lost only few battles, and when France lose or win, battles involved are geopoliticaly important.

Trafalgar, losse of naval capacity for Spain and France, England is now the only master of the seas (in an era of colonisation, trade and woldwide empires, it's so important).

Waterloo, one of the only battle lost by Napoleon, end of Revolutionnary France era, it's so important in history.

  • @Guildou At home obeying the monroe doctrine :D and training an army... but we "officialy" entered the war in '16 and landed in '17 april '18 was the end of WW1

  • VIVA LA FRANCE

  • @eikkkN I don't mention the Somme you idiot, second though Verdun was a victory it was an extremely costly one a full 100,000 more Frenchmen died than the number of Germans lost at the battle. The Somme was hardly a French Victory more an Allied victory given the British contributed more troops to that battle throughout its duration, so stfu. Also in the Falklands we lost 258 men, the Argies lost 649 and 11,313 were taken prisoner and we won the war. How was that unsustainable you fool?
