Big Kitchen "29 on 29" Anniversary Party

Judy The Beauty Day Declared by City of San Diego

At the 29 on 29 party Monday evening, City Councilmember Todd Gloria surprised Judy with a proclamation naming June 29, 2009, Judy The Beauty Day in the City of San Diego. (Judy asked, How many hours do I have left?) Heres the text of the proclamation:

Celebrating 29 Years of Big Kitchen Cafe
Judy The Beauty Forman Day
Presented by Councilmember Todd Gloria

WHEREAS, Judy The Beauty Forman has operated Big Kitchen Café since 1980; and

WHEREAS, Big Kitchen Café is located at 3003 Grape Street in the South Park community; and

WHEREAS, Big Kitchen Café focuses on not only food, but humor, art, music, theater, friendship and community development and Judy Forman has never turned away a customer for a meal regardless of the ability to pay; and

WHEREAS, Judy The Beauty Forman has been an activist and Civil Rights leader and has mentored and cared for countless Lesbian and Gay youth, giving them a strong work ethic and job training through job opportunities; and

WHEREAS, Big Kitchen Café has received national acclaim for its food and services from the Food Networks Rachel Rays Best Eats in Town on $40 a Day, as well as one of Bon Appetite Magazines Best Places for Breakfast; and

WHEREAS, Judy The Beauty Forman was named a State of California 2005 Woman of the Year; and

WHEREAS, on June 29, 2009, Judy The Beauty Forman will celebrate Big Kitchen Cafés 29th Anniversary; now therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, by the Mayor and the Council of the City of San Diego, that this Council, for and on behalf of the people of San Diego, does hereby commend Judy The Beauty Forman and Big Kitchen Cafe for 29 years of excellent food and community participation and development.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that June 29, 2009, be and is hereby proclaimed to be, Judy The Beauty Forman Day in the City of San Diego.
