Hundreds of Action for Healthy Kids volunteers, made up of parents, educators, community members and corporate employees, lent their time, muscle and nutritional expertise during the fall of 2011 to teach students at 11 schools in Chicago, Denver and Washington, D.C. about the importance of eating healthy food and to increase students' opportunities for physical activity. The volunteers' efforts were all part of AFHK's national service initiative, Get in the Action, which empowers ordinary people to address the childhood obesity epidemic by making healthy changes in schools typically in a single day of service.
