Dyer Island Conservation Trust was alerted about a heavy entangled mother and calf in the Gansbaai area. A large float was attached to the whale to slow her down and keep her on the surface to get in and cut the ropes with specialized blades attached to a pole. This work is extremely dangerous as whales are strong, this one by then aggresive and had a calf to protect- she just wanted to get away- fast!
When the pole was lost after numerous attempts, the float was cut to let the whale swim away.
Dickie worked the float and roping in, Wilfred Chivell the cutting, Albert and Kira the small boat.. Deon, Allison and Christina supported from Lwazi, the anchor boat. Fasttrax was there to capture the moment..
